Most of you know me.  Perhaps some of you don’t.  Whether or not you know me, I’m going to introduce myself.  Hi, I’m Zev – high school student, Capitals fan, and, most importantly, food lover.  My ideal occupation would be something concerning food and writing.  Therefore, I am starting this blog in an attempt to kick-start my career.  You can expect my posts to be random, infrequent, and disorganized.  But I don’t care what you think because this blog is really for me.

I would like to dedicate it to someone who guided me through adventures in eating despite the fact that I never even met him.  I would like to dedicate this blog to the memory and legacy of Anthony Bourdain.

As you obviously are aware, a few weeks ago,  Anthony Bourdain was found dead in a French hotel room.  His death sent shock waves all over the world drawing reactions from Barack Obama to Gordon Ramsey.  His death also deeply saddened me because I looked up to him and thought he had so much life left.

When I watched No Reservations, I envied this man because his life seemed amazing – I mean a job where you get to travel around the world while eating and drinking everything in sight.  Who wouldn’t want that?  Well, apparently, he didn’t.  This confuses me but I guess what we saw on the TV was not a reflection of what was going on inside.

Regardless, Anthony Bourdain inspired me to pursue a similar path.  When I backpacked around the world instead of going to 8th grade last year, I went to many of the restaurants and food stalls that he visited.  I tried to walk in his footsteps.  He was truly special.  There will never be another like him.

My family and me with a food stall chef in Georgetown, Malaysia.  As you can see by the picture on the sign, Bourdain was here (he had the fried oyster omelet, and so did we).

I would like to dedicate this blog to his memory and legacy.  Hopefully I will do him justice.

  11. Zev’s Top 10: Taipei – Eat It Avatar

[…] Anthony Bourdain called eating their dumplings, “a deeply religious experience”.  And I completely agree.  Right before you pop that soup dumpling into the lowest hole in your face, you dunk it into a mixture of raw grated ginger, rice vinegar, and a splash of soy sauce.  Then you pop it into the lowest hole in your head, and your taste buds will sing in perfect harmony as the soup explodes in your mouth.
